Let’s talk podcasts.
If you’re new to the online business world, then you’re about to be introduced to your new best friend. Podcasts are convenient for moms because you can nurse, pump, play with your kids, work, work out, or do whatever you wanna do while you listen.
If you’re still working outside of the home and haven’t made the transition to freelancing or working from home yet, podcasts are a great way to spend your commute.
If you’re already obsessed with podcasts, you know that they can be a goldmine of valuable information for whatever you’re listening in about. The huge number of podcasts out there can be really overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to start a business.
I’ve listened to about a million of them. And here are a few that I think give incredible value if you’re a mom trying to start a business!
1.) The Live Free Podcast | Micala Quinn
If you’ve been doing any amount of research about working from home as a mom, you’ve probably run into Micala Quinn’s amazing blog! If not, definitely check it out or bookmark it to take a look at later. Her website is an absolute treasure trove of information if you’re new to the idea of freelancing or working from home.
Her podcast is specifically about how to build a freelance business from home, as a mom. She has solo episodes as well as interviews with other moms who run their own freelance businesses. She’s not afraid to talk numbers and keep it real. So much respect.
Micala’s podcast is hyper-relevant to you if you’re new to freelancing, but if you’re not new (like me) it’s still got tons of value. While this is a podcast for moms, it focuses more on the business side of things than the mama side.
My favorite episodes of The Live Free Mama Podcast:
- Ep. 45: “The Truth About How to Make Money Blogging” (with Monica Froese of the Redefining Mom blog)
- Ep. 42: “How to be Relentless in Growing Your Freelance Business”
- Ep. 16: “How to Sell your Services in a Saturated Market” (with Dana Malstaff from Boss Mom)
- Ep. 10: “The Simple, Powerful Strategy to Landing Virtual Assistant Clients”
2.) Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast | Amy Porterfield
Amy Porterfield, if you’re new to online business, is kinda a celebrity around these parts. She interviews marketing experts from various backgrounds on her podcasts and sometimes she does solo episodes as well. She’s built a seriously successful business and she’s particularly well-known for her online courses.
She breaks down her content into easily-digestible chunks and provides value for beginners and veterans of digital marketing. And just a heads up – if you’re a freelancer, you have to be a digital marketer, in a sense.
From social media tips to email marketing conversion optimization, you’ll find a lot of helpful info on this podcast. She has about a million and a half episodes, so I recommend combing through and looking for episodes that are about topics that you need help with the most.
3.) Goal Digger Podcast | Jenna Kutcher
The first podcast I ever listened to regularly was the Goal Digger Podcast.
As a mom business owner, you’ll find a lot of relatable episodes on this podcast for sure. Jenna does some solo episodes, but most of her episodes are eye-opening interviews with women who have taken control of their own careers and started successful businesses. She talks to bloggers, freelancers, startup founders, salon owners, influencers, YouTubers, fitness coaches, and a lot more.
She talks to people you’ve probably heard of and people you probably haven’t. Most episodes involve conversations about how each woman built their business, where they started from, how long it took them to become successful, what their life looks like now, and what advice they would give to anyone hoping to follow a similar path.
Her usual topics include business, branding, marketing, social media, motivation, and, most recently, mom life.
I usually come away from every episode learning something new, but if nothing else, this podcast is super motivational. As someone who doesn’t know many other women who are creating the life they want to live, I love listening to the stories these women have to tell.
4.) Fueled With Heart Podcast | Reina Pomeroy
Reina is a coach for service-based creative business owners. Sound specific? That’s because it is – Reina knows what her zone of genius is and she’s good at helping her people. If you’re a web designer, virtual assistant, graphic designer, photographer, copywriter, or even a coach or a digital marketer, you’ll want to tune in.
She talks about work-life balance, how to gain visibility online, how to attract your ideal clients, and lots more. The average episode length is around 20 minutes, so there’s not a lot of fluff going on here at all – just pure value!
5.) The Merriweather Council Podcast | Danielle ???
The Merriweather Council is a podcast for Etsy sellers and other handmade business owners.
I really like how Danielle formats the episodes. They’re just as long as they need to be and not a minute longer. You won’t find a lot of fluff here, which is great. Most of the episodes are solo, but she does interview people here and there.
If you sell on Etsy (or if you’re thinking about it) check this one out!
6.) The Purpose Show | Allie Casazza
If you’re looking for a podcast that is more about the mom side of things than the business side (with a little business sprinkled in) then The Purpose Show is a good one to take a look at. The host, Allie, has a highly profitable online business, but most of her episodes discuss motherhood, motivation, living intentionally, and things like that.
I tend to tune into this one less often because I like to listen to business-related podcasts more than other kinds of podcasts, but I find this one to be pretty refreshing.
There’s so much more going on at my house than just kids, dinner, and laundry! Allie really seems to have a handle on productivity and intentional living amongst the chaos of being an online business owner and a mom.
